Well, my alarm went off at the right time to get up and head to Riverview... but my headache said "NO WAY!" So I took my migraine meds, texted Larry that I wasn't coming until later, and went back to sleep.
Woke up around 11, had a shower and coffee and food - and felt better. Since I wasn't due until 4ish at Riverview, I got a hold of my "crazy neighbour" at Westboine and made arrangements to get the last of my stuff out of the yard. I hadn't gotten any official notice, but someone had told T that new folks were moving in on the 1st. Yikes! Luckily, it was all thawed out now and I could go get it.
I got there, and a bunch of stuff was missing! I found out a bit later that the maintenance guys had taken it out, thinking I had left it there to be disposed of. Luckily - it was still around, so I could do what was needed with it.
Sadly, the BBQ didn't weather well...and was a LOT bigger than I remembered. No way was it going to fit on the balcony here...so, I gave it to T to go with the shed. BBQ's will be on sale soon - so I'll find a nice small one for us.
Got the taxes all sent off, picked up a package and off to visit Larry. He'd just woken up from a nap, and his whole face lit up when he saw me :)
It was a nice visit, albeit short. But that's okay, I'll be there most of the day tomorrow.
Still waiting for "official" confirmation of the extension, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be in the family meeting tomorrow.

Monday April 28, 2014 - Happy 13th Anniversary to us :D
Off to Riverview for 9 am to take Larry to his neuro-ophthalmologist appointment for 10am. It's in the same clinic as Kodi's neurologist, so I knew where I was going. Still drove right past it though :P
Very thorough testing revealed what we suspected - the left side of both eyes have deficits. The dr. thinks it will get better as time goes on, so we go back in 2 months. It took way too long, so we couldn't head out for an anniversary lunch. *sigh* oh well.
Back in time for Larry to eat some lunch, and then downstairs for therapy. I got his times mixed up, and he didn't fully read his paper with the times written down, so we had his splint on and then his OT came in and told us that OT was at 2:00. LOL She laughed at me when I said "I" had the times wrong, not Larry.
Over the weekend, he'd mentioned to me that he wasn't going to say anything to his OT about the extra week. He's okay with it, but not going to bring it up. She brought it up to me, and I told her he was okay with it...but she had to mention it to him and have HIM say okay.
His PT checked his shoulder to see if there were any issues, and of course it didn't hurt at all where she was prodding. Which is a good thing - means it's only muscle pain, not anything bigger. They're really focusing on his left arm/hand/shoulder now, because his balance is pretty good and so is his walking. As his leg strengthens up, his gait should get better and better.
Off to OT, and Larry had a GREAT day! He was able to grasp the nerf balls about 70% of the time, which is so much more than even last week :D
His OT mentioned the extra time, and Larry agreed to one more week...but that's it!
We also found out that his splint will be in on Wednesday :) So, busy day on Wed. We get his splint, have the family meeting (discharge, and all that goes with it) and then therapy. whew.
While it sucked that Larry was in Riverview for our anniversary, we got to spend it together. That's what's important!

Wow.
We both slept WELL last night :D YAY!
I made egg cups today, using my tortilla bowl makers. They worked great!
Just watched TV and did a bit of walking today. Larry is walking around the apartment unaided :D WOOT!
Finally got smart and ordered a soap/shampoo dispenser for the bathroom. Then, Larry can get shampoo one handed.
Back to Riverview, and chatted with the nurses. They're all pretty awesome there!
Anyone have ideas for a thank you gift?

Well, Larry was able to come home. His INR was 3.2
YAY!
We grabbed an iced capp for me and a mango smoothie for him and then ran to Safeway for a few things. Came home and made supper, then relaxed for the evening :)

Larry had an appointment at the Sleep Clinic today. The Riverview folks don't know why Larry is having trouble sleeping at night, and want to make sure it's not apnea.
So, we reviewed his file with the doctor and confirmed that Larry doesn't snore, or if he does - very little. They don't think it's "obstructive apnea" but they do want a sleep study just in case. His overnight oxygen monitoring test showed that his levels went low fairly often.
We'll get a letter telling us when his appointment is, and go from there.
During therapy today, his OT mentioned that his splint won't be here until next week - and she'd also like to extend his stay for another week. Larry made a face, and I told her we'd talk, and let her know.
Finally, to add insult to injury, his INR is too high (3.2) so they aren't comfortable with him going home tonight. They're going to take it again tomorrow, and if it's the same or lower, he can go for the rest of the weekend. *sigh* Dr. Mario (yes, real name) also let us know that he was lowering the dilantin back to previous, and adding a new one. He also advised us to... take it easy so we don't have a repeat of last weekend. *blush*
Larry REALLY doesn't want to stay another week - and he's pretty upset today.
Coming home alone sucked.

What a day!
Larry had a bit of a rough night last night, and then had a small seizure in OT.
We had just gotten his splint on, and his OT was getting his worktable. Larry was working on getting his fingers to move when his hand started to twitch. He said "My hand is twitching", and he sounded a bit panicked. I had that splint off in record time, and had him lie down. It only lasted a few seconds, and was only in his arm - but was definitely a seizure.
Freaked out his OT a bit, that's for sure. We had him lie down for a bit, and then his PT let him know that no more therapy for him today.
They actually had him go up to his room in his wheelchair, and he couldn't even drive... just ride along. They took his BP (fine), and then gave him an ativan just in case.
So, Larry took it easy and rested all day. I stayed with him. The doctor on that day added some extra dilantin, which made Larry very tired.

Well, today was a better day for Larry!
He managed to get some sleep last night (YAY!) but was still feeling a bit tired.
In OT, his therapist changed out the splint he was using to a slightly smaller one. She has "stock" ones that she uses. However, Larry has a custom fitted one coming soon! Once she did that, Larry was able to actually "grasp" a foam ball! WOOHOOO! you could SEE his muscles flexing...it was awesome! :) This is the first time he's been able to do it more than once!! WOOT WOOOT!
In his muscle stimulation session, his hand was moving beautifully. More extension in the fingers, and better wrist movement.
And then in Phsyio, he was able to move his shoulder a fair amount, and you could again see his fingers moving when he "told" them too!
He had blood work today, and the tape/cotton was bugging him, so he tried to use his left hand to take it off. It took some time, but he did it!!!! Again, I could see his hand/fingers flexing. Good progress today!!!
Also, he's starting to "self-medicate" :P nope, not like that! It's up to him to remember to ask the nurse for his medications. He knows what times they are at, and the nurses have a "blister" pack with his meds. They'll bring it, and he has to pick the correct "blister" of meds. :) We're hoping this means he's actually coming home on the 1st of May....

Got a text from Larry at 6ish (AM!), and then he phoned me. He had woken up, and his fingers were outside of the splint he wears at night. This isn't an unusual occurrence, but it freaked him out.
We chatted for a few minutes, and then he tried to go back to sleep. I managed to do so, but he texted me again at 8:30.
He was able to put his shirt on very easily, and he said his arm felt "lighter" than it did on Friday. He also said he could touch his chin easier too. So, who knows - maybe the seizures were pathways resetting/recreating themselves.
All I know is that I hope he doesn't have any more of them.
I had my doctor appt today to get the process started for surgery on my left ear. *sigh* I'm really not sure why I'm doing it... I guess I'm hoping this one is a success, and I can try a revision on the right ear later.

another quiet day at home today.
Larry slept well last night, so he felt pretty good today. We did a bit of therapy for his left hand and arm, but made sure not to overdo it.
Neither of us were looking forward to going back to Riverview, but we knew we had to. *sigh*
when we got there, we noticed that Larry's favourite nurse was working. She asked how the weekend was, and he answered "I've had better". We asked her to come chat when she had a minute.
When she came in, we told her how the weekend went. It was pretty embarrassing to have to tell her what we were doing when the seizure hit, but you can't keep details back. The nurses called the doctor, and he said that we did the right thing, but next time - tell Riverview when it happens, not when we get back. :)
They are going to take blood tomorrow and see what Larry's levels are at, and perhaps consult with a neurologist to see why this happened now... over 2 months after the first one.
The nurses emphasized that if he feels the warning signs (index finger straightening, arm twitching) he's to sit down NOW, not in a second, NOW! and don't hide it - if he can, let people know what's happening. Of course, they also said try not to worry about it... and we will...but, it's hard not to. For the first time in weeks, Larry's going to have his call button close by, just in case.

so, 4.20 - Nope, I didn't go to the Legislature building today...the thought did cross my mind though :P
Larry and I had a bit of a rough night - neither of us slept great. Larry was up at 3:30am, and had trouble getting back to sleep... we were both a bit freaked out.
So, finally - 8ish came and we got up to shower. While Larry was in the shower, his left arm started to twitch again... so, we got him out of the shower and sat down. Then, just in case, we got him into the bedroom and lying down. Thankfully, it was just some spasms in his arm - not a full blown seizure. Still, it made him tired.
We went to Leo's for Easter breakfast, and then came home. Larry's absolutely exhausted, so we had a nice quiet day at home.
Happy Easter to those who celebrate... Happy Sunday to those who don't :)

Saturday April 19, 2014 - another scary day
Woke up this morning to kisses :)
We were laying down in bed, *cough cough* and Larry's hand started to move a bit. I thought - show off!
And then... his arm started to shake, and then his shoulders - Awwww crap, here we go again!!!
This time, I knew what to expect. When the seizure took hold of him, I just talked to him and reminded him to breathe. I told him that he's having a seizure, and to just relax and don't fight it. It seemed like forever, but was probably a minute.
Once it was over and he was breathing, albeit heavily, I called 911. They got here quick, and did an assessment. By the time that was over, Larry was talking pretty well and almost back to normal. He managed to walk, with help, to the stretcher.
We spent the afternoon at the Victoria hospital. Larry managed a couple of naps, and his BP was great the whole time. They did some blood work, and found nothing that would trigger a seizure. His anti-seizure med level in his blood was 11, and they like between 10 and 20. So, they gave him a top up dose and told us to talk to Riverview when we went back on Monday.
Larry is pretty tired, but doing okay. :)

Today was an interesting day for Larry.
He was being assessed in the kitchen by his OT :)
He did great!!! He made pasta and meat sauce for lunch, for both of us. All by himself!!! YAY LARRY!!

Ugh, blech and barf.
The doctors took wayyyy to long with the paperwork for LTD, so now Larry's payments are on hold while they review. *sigh* Certainly messes up the budgeting, I can tell you that!
Larry texted me at 8:20 that OT was at 9:00 am today. No way was I making that - I could barely get myself moving. So, I told him I'd see him for physio at 2.
I then went back to sleep until 11am. *sigh* I guess I needed it, but my schedule is now messed up for the week :(
We also confirmed that it's a 4 day weekend at home :D Friday through Monday - he's due back at Riverview Monday night. That's going to be nice - not like we're doing much, but still - nice :D

Larry got upgraded to a straight cane today! WOOHOO! (no jokes from the peanut gallery! LOL)
He's now independent, using only a regular cane. The still have him working on walking without one in physio, and he's working with his splint in OT.
He's getting a bit frustrated, because he thinks he should be doing better with that splint. Nope, he's doing pretty good - once it comes off, he can do more!

We went to dinner at Leo's on Saturday - it was nice. First dinner there since Larry's stroke - YAY! :D
It was pretty emotional, because we were all so thrilled to see Larry out and about and walking so well.
Other than that, not a whole lot went on. It was a nice quiet weekend together :)

Today Larry got measured for his own Saebo splint - it should be ready in a couple of weeks. We'll end up taking it home with us, unless a miracle happens and his hand starts working perfectly (not that I'm saying it won't, but odds are...not so much).
We left Riverview about 3:30, went and picked up a few groceries, and went home for supper. I made home made sweet and sour chicken with rice :D

I went to Riverview for 11 today, as that was when Larry had physio.
He was walking by himself to places, and was working on steps. He's getting so much stronger every day!! He also did some work with a pole and raising his arm up. He is starting to get some movement in his hand..it's slight, but its' there!! WOOOOHOOOO!!!
Then, in OT today, one of the therapists explained exactly what they meant by "tone" in his hand/arm. It's actually a good thing - if there's no tone, then that limb will never move again. So - Larry has tone, so it's good. Now, to make it so he has conscious movement of the hand.
Another go with his splint, and he managed to hold a couple of the nerf toys they use. His OT then took off the splint, and he was able to use his hand a bit! YAYYYYY!! I'm pretty happy :D

Today was a later day, and I got there about 4:30 or so.
Larry was just waking up from a small snooze, so it was perfect timing. After he woke up, it was supper time. :)
After supper, Larry was telling me about how his physio came up and mentioned that he's not doing much walking around the unit. I'm sure she didn't mean to make it sound like he's being lazy, but unfortunately that's how it came across. I know it was because he was afraid of triggering his gout.
So, he's to try to walk around the unit more - and is now walking with his cane to OT every day :) It was a fairly quiet evening.

Went again today for 9am, and Larry did his OT with his new splint. He's a bit frustrated, because he's having issues grasping things - but it's coming along.
It's a very very slow process. But, he's making progress!
A bit of speech therapy, and then it was just waiting for physio. Larry decided to go in early, and just park for a bit. However, his physiotherapist saw him and asked if he wanted to start early. So, Larry started early.
He did a total of 15 laps (3 sets of 5) without a cane! WOOHOO! Goooooo Larry! :D
He's getting stronger and stronger every day
It's a very very slow process. But, he's making progress!

Nothing like a text at 3:30 am to make the day go wiggly :P
Larry had a nightmare, and texted me. Which is good - I told him, you need me - you text/call me! It wasn't a fun dream - he dreamed he was holding on to the barrier of the Disraili bridge, and was going to jump/fall...and woke up before either happened.
I was late getting to Riverview, because while I don't have a timeline a lot of the time, other folks do. And 8:30 am is RUSH HOUR! lol
But, I did get to watch Larry with his "wolverine" hand :P It's pretty freaky looking, but it's working - and he's getting better with it! YAY!

Larry mentioned that because I was late, he was afraid I wasn't coming today... silly man. I reassured him it was Confusion Corner, not him that was the issue. He mentioned that they are going to monitor him tonight for sleep apnea, because he's tired all the time. We thought it was because he's doing more, but since we're not sure - monitor away!
In physio today he did 5 laps of the gym, with just him walking! no cane, nothing. The PT was walking with him, but she wasn't holding him up or anything. Just there in case he stumbled. WOOHOO go Larry!! :D Getting stronger every week!
After that, we went upstairs for lunch. I told Larry what I had Googled, and that type of dream is a resisting the "moving forward" phase - and the jump/fall is leaving it up to fate. Anyone knows that Larry is so not a "fate" type of guy. So, we chatted about that, and he was feeling a bit better.
It was then nap time for Larry, and off to a massage for me :D
Larry and Mike went to the Jets game tonight. Other than the fact that the Jets didn't score a goal, Mike said it was a great night. Larry was able to stay for the whole game, and they had a great time. Good seats too, I understand :P

after a pretty rough sleep Friday night, last night's sleep was awesome! We actually slept in a bit, and didn't get up until after 8:30. Shhh don't tell we were a bit late with Larry's meds (only about 10 minutes)
We had a very quiet day, as the rest of the weekend had been pretty exciting and exhausting for Larry. Plus, he's going to the Jets game tomorrow.
Neither of us wanted him to go back to Riverview, though we know it's best for him right now. Still dont' have to like it!
But, since we have next weekend to look forward too, it's allllll good :D

We had a visit from Aunt E and Uncle B today. :) It was nice to see them, and they got to see the new place. They quite liked it. YAY! we like it too!
Larry then went to McNally Robinson for the first time since his stroke. He was pretty nervous, but everyone was sooo happy to see him :D He's pretty loved there. woot!
Made supper and watched the Jets game. :) Was pretty nice.

Woohoo!Larry is home for the weekend :D
We went to Safeway to pick up a few things, and I pushed Larry in his wheelchair, and he was the official basket holder :P
That's really all we did today, and that's all that we needed to do. Larry quite enjoyed the "real food" for supper LOL

Tuesday April 1, 2014 - no jokes here :P
Today, Larry was up early and got himself ready for the day by himself. He's pretty happy about the whole independent thing :D I wonder why? :P
He sent me a text with his therapy times, and I raring to go. He then called me about an hour before the time he sent me and said "I thought you were coming....?". *sigh* Wrong times. I did manage to make it for one session. We know that's an issue, so I showed him how to use the camera on his phone - so he'll take a picture of it tomorrow. we hope lol
His PT did some balance work with him, and he's doing great! She also did some work with the left arm, and it's coming along. His shoulder/shoulder blade is starting to move well. The hand, not as much - but I think it's going to happen soon. His PT told him - its' the farthest from the brain, so it will take longer.
Today, I was doing some edema massage (very very gentle one way pressure on the hand) and he said it was painful. I remember his arm was like that too - the nerve endings coming alive! *crosses fingers*
On another note - I think the movers broke my computer chair. It's making some funky noises that it didn't do before we moved. Grrrr. And it's not a cheap chair, either!
