Friday June 27, 2014

Physio today at 2:00.  Larry was pretty tired today, but physio went well. :)

One of his Riverview saeboflex folks was there today.  She's got some more movement than Larry, but Larry is starting to come along now!  He's working hard on getting those fingers moving :)

Thursday June 26, 2014

OT today - she made some more adjustments to the SaeboFlex to see if we can get Larry's fingers to go straight when he does his home therapy. We'll see.

Wednesday June 25, 2014

Larry's long awaited dermatologist appointment today.

She gave him a cream to try, and a follow up in October.

Tuesday June 24, 2014

Not much going on today - finally getting the car fixed. :P

Since we have loss of use, we got a rental.  It started out as a HUGE minivan - that barely fit in the parking space.  We now have a Camry - much better.

Monday June 23, 2014

After a nice, restful weekend  - today we hit the floor running!

Breakfast and then laundry.  Fit in lunch, and then 1.5 hours with the OT.  The SaeboFlex is a bit off, so she's going to adjust it on Thursday.  Larry has a bit of a pressure wound on his thumb, so no more SaeboFlex until then.

The OT left and off to Physiotherapy.  More movement in his fingers!!! WOOOT WOOOOT!

Then an hour getting home... construction on Maryland and Broadway, making Maryland one lane! UGH

Larry was so tired he didn't even eat supper - went to sleep for a while.

I went to my massage, and when I got home - Larry had just gotten up!  He had about a 3 hour snooze...so he must have been wiped out!

Thursday June 19, 2014

*happy dancing*

LARRY MOVED THE FINGERS ON HIS LEFT HAND TODAY!!!

WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!

He did that this morning at breakfast.  And then again a bit when his new OT was here in the afternoon :)

Wednesday June 18, 2014

A good day at physio today - Larry's getting a lot of movement in his shoulder.  Now to get those muscles stronger!

Tuesday June 17, 2014

Ugh. Stupid foot :(  I've got a cracked heel, and it's making it hard to walk. Good thing we're not going anywhere today!

SaeboFlex went VERY well today.  Larry's starting to have a lot of success letting go of the poofballs, which is awesome!!  We're also working with his hand after the splint is removed, and he's doing well with that too. Learning to relax his wrist/hand :)  Still needs a bit of help, but we'll talk to the OT on Thursday for suggestions.

Larry went for a walk by himself today :)  Woohoo!!! I'll admit I was a bit nervous, but he enjoyed it.

Monday June 16, 2014

Back to the routine...sorta. :P

Larry had a sleep study last night - it was tough to leave him there, but I did it.  When I picked him up this morning, he said his slept pretty well - and they got the information they needed, I guess. We'll find out more on July 7 when he has his follow up. At 8am.. eeeewwwwww

Then is was off to blood work and then breakfast :)  We splurged and hit McDonald's...for the first time since Larry was discharged from Riverview.

Since I didn't get much sleep last night, I went for a nap. Larry decided to sleep as well, since he had physio later.

Out to physiotherapy, where the PT had a student learning.  Since Larry is doing so well, and has NO pain in his shoulder, she had him doing a bit of everything.  He did stretches, lifts, balancing.  He's getting a LOT of movement in his shoulder now, and is starting to use his left hand for things.

Last night, I noticed that when he was a bit off balance, he put out his left hand to help.  He also ...*drum roll*  Held his fork in his left hand, and cut his steak! WOOOOHOOOOO!!  Go Larry!!!!

Watched the IceCaps lose :(

Sunday June 15, 2014 - Happy Father's Day!

I made Larry some pancakes, sausages and eggs for breakfast today.  :)

Since we're .... not rich until payday, that's all I could give him :P

We had dinner at Mikes tonight.  Again, a wonderful meal!  Thanks Mike!! :D

Friday the 13th of June, 2014

Nope, no tricadecaphobia here :P

went to Dr. S and he gave a requisition for blood work.  It has to be done just before the next dose of dilantin is due, so we can't do it until Monday morning.

otherwise, had a quiet day :)

Thursday June 12, 2014

Whew.  A very very busy but good day.

We worked with the SaeboFlex, and it went great :)  Did some work on the stationary bike, but Larry was still pretty tired so not much.

Got a call from the Community Stroke Services - for Larry's Occupational Therapy.  She starts next Thursday :)  The private one was very nice, but we don't have to pay for the Community one, so we won't be seeing the private OT any more.

More good - the pharmacy managed to get his new prescription to file electronically - so we only have to pay about 20% instead of all of it and get reimbursed. *whew*

Also contacted the nurse at HSC Stroke program - she strongly recommended that Larry see his GP and get his levels checked.  made the appt for tomorrow.

Wednesday June 11, 2014

Well, based on how tired Larry is today - we're going with "seizure" from yesterday :(

We went to Physio anyway, and he told her that we're pretty sure it was a seizure.  She did some easy work with him, which was great!

We're starting to see some progress with the range of motion in his arm.

Still managed to make it to Mike's for supper - Thanks Mike!  Very very good :D

Tuesday June 10, 2014

Yay!

Larry's not in a lot of pain today - which means he didn't over do it in therapy yesterday :)

Had a bit of a scare - his hand/arm started twitching again :(  but we're not sure if it was a seizure or just muscle spasms - they look the same, and all it was was the forearm and fingers. *sigh*

Dr. Appt was good - he's still hypothyroid, so his med has been increased.  Let's hope this helps with the fatigue :)

Monday June 9, 2014

Well, another weekend gone.
Not much new and exciting - Larry had some trouble with the Saebo yesterday, but I think he was just tired.

Physio went great today!!   His PT is very happy with how well he's doing, and she said she could see some progress already. woot woot!

Friday June 6, 2014

Larry got a call from the Dr's office, they want to see him for a follow up about his blood work.  Appointment is  Tuesday

SaeboFlex has been going well, but Larry's foot and hip are really sore, so not a lot of physio has been done the past couple of days.

Wednesday June 4, 2014

Busy day today

I had my physical, Larry and I both had bloodwork and then had to boogie home.  Managed a decent lunch and then off to physiotherapy for Larry.

he did a lot of stretching of his left arm, and then some time on the nustep.  Wonderful machine - it's like an elliptical machine, but you're sitting down.

Got home, Larry had a quick snooze, then it's supper time and waiting for the occupational therapist.

She took a look at his SaeboFlex and made a few adjustments to it.  Larry had a tough time with it because it was now a lot harder to move his fingers, but we'll practice

Tuesday, June 3, 2014

Well, I found out what's been bothering Larry the past few days.... he's been *gasp* Googling!!!!  Which of course always leads to the worst possible thing being what's ailing you.

He's been feeling a bit...bloated and having issues with constipation.  So ...what does he find when he puts those symptoms in? Not medication side effects.... oh no... he finds colon cancer!

He finally told me that this morning, and I felt so bad for him.  He's been worrying about this for over a week now!  No wonder he's been grumpy and tired :(
We looked at the literature together, and did a symptom by symptom check.  The worst of the symptoms he doesn't have - phew.  Since he had a physical today, we talked with Dr. S about it.  He said if Larry is really worried, he can do some testing to ease his mind.  As bloodwork was being done anyway, it was easy for Dr. S to add a few more, just to be safe.

I LOVE Dr. S :)  He's soooo awesome :)

After the appointment, Larry was in a much better mood.  Yay for good doctors!

Monday June 2, 2014

After a quiet weekend, we had another fairly quiet day today.  Larry just wasn't feeling up to Saebo, so we didn't do any OT today.

Larry met his new Physiotherapist today.  She's at HSC, and is pretty nice. :)  We'll be going twice a week to see her, and I'm sure we'll get some home exercises too.    Larry hasn't been really himself the past few days, I'm hoping it's only the stress of a new physiotherapist that's doing it.

Friday May 30, 2014

What a crazy day - Kodi had training from 9am to 1pm.  He got home, and we quickly booted it to HSC.  I found parking on the street - wooot wooot! :D

Spent a few minutes waiting, and then in we go.  The doctor gave Larry some directions, and then walked behind to see if Larry could follow them.  Larry did pretty good - just turned the wrong way...which he did before the stroke :P  They did an assessment of how well Larry walks, talks, etc.  Then the Stroke Doctor (not what you're thinking) wanted to change Larry's anticoagulant, but had to have a blood test done first. So, off we go and then for a coffee.  A bit more waiting, and then back in we go.

They made the change, and also let us know that Larry has EDS -  Exception Drug Status.  I'm not 100% sure what that is, but I'll do some research.

Thursday May 29, 2014

A fairly quiet day today - did physio and OT with Larry.

Kodi has orientation for his summer job tonight :D
